Employee Social Impact (ESI) is Piramal Group’s employee volunteering program which provides meaningful volunteering opportunity by bringing NGO partners and beneficiaries closer to you.

Piramal Pharma Solutions, Morpeth, partnered with a local charity called Groundwork North East Cumbria as a part of their first Employee Social Impact activity to provide volunteer support to help enhance the local area for the benefit of the community.

Groundwork carries out a great deal of work linked to communities and the environment, with a big local impact. They work across the UK and in Northumberland to help manage large amounts of open green spaces that their team, working with local people, make positive use of.  They encourage volunteers to play a role in physically improving and managing sites. They also deliver programmes that allow local people to gain skills, confidence, work experience and develop social networks through using their green spaces.

This was the first organised volunteering event with Groundwork and the aim was to create niche habitats to support more invertebrates and associated wildlife into the dene. It also involved thinning trees back to make way for other, varied native tree species with a greater ecological benefit, promoting greater biodiversity.

The team carried out some great work that will benefit that part of the dene for a long time to come.
