Understanding Grassroot Issues in the Education Sector

Piramal Foundation
August 05, 2019

Earlier this year, Piramal Foundation for Education Leadership signed a Development Impact Bond to set up financial modelling with a focus on improving student learning outcomes in New Delhi and Gujarat.

Development Impact Bond (DIB) is a new model of analysing the impact in comparison to cost invested. DIB brought in new vision in the education sector by demonstrating how the development sector could bring in change with speed and scale within specific timelines. Data based quarterly reports in the form of MIS developed strategic thinking skills for teams.
As an outcome, Head-Masters and teachers have started taking ownership of school processes. While Dalberg helped in understanding the data of school interventions every quarter, regular visits helped in strategizing the way forward.

To understand our work at the grassroots & methods applied to improve student learning outcomes in schools, members of The British Asian Trust, UBS Optimus Foundation, DFID - UK Department for International Development, Michael & Susan Dell Foundation, Tata Trusts, Dalberg, Comic Relief, and Dr. Nicholas Burnett, Member Advisory Board - Development Impact Bonds, had an interaction with the Gandhi Fellows in Ahmedabad.
