Through her extensive work, she has developed a deep understanding of the needs and expectations of survivors who come to the facility. She prioritizes needs and rights of the GBV survivors and provides support in every stage. She ensures that survivors should have the right to make decisions about receiving services, referrals, and how their information is used. Through her efforts, many survivors have been linked with One Stop Center of Women & Child Development Corporation, Govt. of Bihar for legal aid, shelter, police assistance, psycho-social support and social security measures.

- Annu Kumari

The two main types of survivors she assists include: a) Emergency cases: Survivors experiencing physical or gender-based violence who come to the hospital for medico-legal examinations. b) Counseling cases: Individuals who may be dealing with an illness alongside some form of violence, seeking emotional and psychological support.

In the last six months, following her GBV training, Annu Kumari conducted 37 counseling sessions, where she applied the LIVES tool (Listen, Inquire, Validate, Enhance safety, and Support) to offer first-line psycho social support. After completing her three days compassion training, she felt a renewed sense of personal connection and direction. Her approach goes beyond empathy, as she focuses on creating a compassionate human-to-human connection, giving survivors the time and care they need.

Her enhanced motivation and efficiency have positively influenced her work and inspired her colleagues. Annu Kumari’s contributions are not only valued within her hospital but have also been recognized at the state level. In recognition of her dedication, the Superintendent of the District Hospital awarded her a certificate in September 2024.

Congratulations Annu Kumari! We are grateful for your exceptional work.
