Global Launch of Compassion Shift at Emory University

A landmark three-day event at Emory University marked the global launch of the Compassion Shift and celebrated the 90th birthday of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, Emory’s Presidential Distinguished Professor and Patron of the Compassion Center. The event brought together global leaders, scholars, and changemakers to advance compassion as a cornerstone of education, leadership, and social systems.

The event unveiled new digital learning platforms to democratize access to compassion-based education across schools, workplaces, and communities worldwide. Piramal Foundation featured prominently, sharing its work on nurturing compassion and Sewa to build resilient communities and drive the vision of Viksit Bharat — a nation where prosperity and happiness emerge from shared well-being.

Key voices included His Eminence Samdhong Rinpoche, Ajay Piramal, Chairman, Piramal Group; Sonja Lyubomirsky, Professor of Psychology, University of California, Riverside; Richard Gere, Chairman, Gere Foundation; and Aditya Natraj, CEO, Piramal Foundation. Representing Piramal Foundation were Monal Jayaram, Co-Founder and Senior Core Team Member, School of Education and System Change (SOESC); Kartik Varma, Co-Founder and Senior Core Team Member, Piramal School of Health; and Anshu Dubey, Core Team Member, SOESC. The sessions were moderated by Kalden Lodoe, journalist, and anchored by insights from Lobsang Tenzin Negi, Executive Director, Compassion Center, Emory University. The convening also celebrated three decades of collaboration between the Compassion Center and His Holiness the Dalai Lama, reaffirming a global commitment to embed compassion into systems that shape the future of humanity.
