The HZ Womenpreneur Award 2023 took place in Delhi on February 23, and 15 winners were awarded for their incredible achievements in their respective fields. Dr Swati Piramal
Born in 1956, Piramal is an Indian scientist and industrialist, who is involved in healthcare with a special focus on public health and innovation. She serves as the vice chairperson of the Piramal Group, a commercial conglomerate with holdings in glass packaging, real estate, financial services, and pharmaceuticals.
Dr Swati Piramal's Career
She founded the Gopikrishna Piramal Hospital in Mumbai and has led public health initiatives to fight polio, osteoporosis, malaria, tuberculosis, and other chronic diseases. She supports women's empowerment initiatives, community education programmes that develop future leaders, and HMRI, a mobile health service, as the Director of the Piramal Foundation, which works to improve health in rural India. She serves as the foundation's director for clean water. She is currently a member of the Most Powerful Women's Hall of Fame after receiving eight nominations for the list of the 25 Most Powerful Women. She was a member of the Prime Minister's Council of Commerce and currently sits on the Scientific Advisory Council of the Prime Minister (2010 - 2014).
Dr Swati Piramal's Accolades
The President of India presented Piramal with the Padma Shri, one of India's highest civilian accolades, in 2012 for her work in the science and technology industry. She held the position of Apex Chamber of Commerce of India's first female president. She also holds the positions of Dean's Adviser to the Harvard Business School and Public Health as well as a member of the Harvard Board of Overseers.
