In the heart of Majhgaon Panchayat in Gumla, Jharkhand, children’s laughter was often missing from schoolyards. The sound of footsteps leading to classrooms had faded as dropout rates grew, leaving education a distant dream for many families. Jyoti Devi, the Head of Majhgaon Panchayat, knew that this wasn’t just a problem—it was holding back her village from contributing to Building Bharat.
Determined to bring children back to school, Jyoti Devi launched a unique and impactful campaign called “Citi Bjao, School Aao” (Blow the Whistle, Come to School).
The idea was simple yet powerful. Every morning, children armed with whistles would blow them across the village, signaling to their friends and neighbors that it was time to go to school. The whistle became more than just a sound—it became a call for change, echoing the importance of education.
But Jyoti’s vision didn’t stop there. She leveraged support from the Piramal Foundation and the Gram Panchayat Planning Facilitation Team (GPPFT) to strengthen her campaign. Together, they worked tirelessly to create awareness, encourage families to prioritize education, and provide resources that helped children return to classrooms with enthusiasm.
Jyoti also took on another crucial challenge—raising awareness about the importance of Aadhar cards. By enabling families to adopt these essential identification tools, she opened doors to new opportunities and government support for her community.
Her campaign sparked a movement in Majhgaon, where the sight of children walking to school became a proud symbol of hope. Families began to understand that education was not just about books and classrooms—it was about empowerment, opportunity, and a brighter tomorrow.
Jyoti Devi’s story is a shining example of how determination, creativity, and collective effort can bring about transformation even in the most challenging situations. From the sound of a simple whistle to the revival of classrooms, her leadership is a reminder that real change begins when a community unites for a common purpose.
Today, the children of Majhgaon walk to school with pride, their whistles a daily reminder that education is the key to unlocking their dreams.
